What is Supported Living?
Supported Living is a living arrangement for adults with developmental disabilities that allows them to live independently while sharing a home with peers for mutual support.
What is the difference between Supported Living and Group Homes?
Supported Living provides members the opportunity to live with 1-3 peers, offering a more personalized and intimate environment, whereas Group Homes accommodate a larger number of residents. One key difference is staffing—Supported Living is designed to provide individualized attention focused on each member’s goals, while Group Homes often operate with less ideal staffing ratios. Additionally, the reimbursement structures differ; Group Homes receive funding per day that a member is present, covering daily living costs but often incentivizing lower-cost care. In contrast, Supported Living is reimbursed based on the hours of care provided, giving members and their families greater control over daily living expenses and the quality of care received.
Who is eligible for Supported Living?
Supported Living is available for adults with developmental disabilities who wish to live independently in a shared setting with peers. A member who is a good fit for Supported Living typically has relatively lower support needs and can be capable of developing independent living skills.
What types of support are provided in Supported Living?
Services include life skill development, access to community resources, and personalized support to enhance independence and quality of life.
